Position Overview The Quality Laboratory & Reliability Engineer is responsible for developing, establishing, validating, and continuously improving quality laboratory processes & functions to be supporting SMT and electronic assembly operations at Leviton Chihuahua plant. This role owns lab readiness (capability, methods, calibration, and compliance), executes qualification and verification testing for NPI and mass production, leads failure analysis, and drives corrective/preventive actions to ensure world-class product quality, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction.
The ideal candidate blends hands-on technical depth in SMT/PCBA with robust problem-solving and leadership suited to a startup environment. Required Qualifications~ Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, Industrial, Materials, or related engineering field.~3+ years in electronics manufacturing with direct experience in SMT/PCBA quality and laboratory methods.~2–5 years' reliability engineering, quality engineering, or product testing—preferably in an electronic or high‐tech manufacturing environment.~ Y Strong knowledge of IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001; practical experience with SPI, AOI, X-ray, and micro sectioning.~ Demonstrated MSA (Gage R&R;), SPC, and 8D/A3 problem-solving.~ Hands-on with reflow profiling, solder paste behavior, and typical SMT defects and mechanisms.~ Experience creating and controlling SOPs/Work Instructions, Control Plans, and PFMEAs with cross-functional teams.~ Proficient in Excel/Power BI or similar for data analysis and reporting.~ Bilingual: Spanish & English (technical communication).~ Ability to work versátil hours during startup/ramp phases. Preferred/Plus Qualifications Experience in greenfield/startup electronics plants and NPI industrialization. Exposure to ICT/FT, boundary scan, and DFT coverage metrics. Knowledge of ANSI/ESD S20.20 program implementation and auditing. Knowledge about IATF 16949 core tools (APQP, PPAP). Competence with DOE, DMAIC projects, and Lean Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt). Experience with conformal coating, potting, cleanliness (ionic contamination/SIR), or thermal cycling.MSA knowledge and qualifications Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification. Experience with automotive, aerospace, medical device, or other high reliability industries. Hands on experience in environmental, mechanical, or electrical stress testing laboratories.
